StreetCar x Motorsport UK Academy

The StreetCar MINI battled it out against the Academy MINI at the Loughborough Car Club evening grass Autotest. At the hands of Motorsport UK Academy Driver Will Ovenden, the intense competition did not disappoint.

Will put the MINI through its paces, wasting no time to allow it to warm up. It was clear the Motorsport UK Academy Driver knew what he was doing behind the wheel, throwing the StreetCar MINI into corner after corner. Will was giving it everything to beat fellow Academy Driver Donovan Dyer. However, as the rain fell and the grip began to slowly fail on the grass surface, it became clear that the key to winning would boil down to how the car handled the wet.

Donovan stated: “I think I was quicker on the first run, however now that it’s started raining, it’s all about who can keep it straight the longest.”

Coming from a rallying background, both drivers anticipated that Will would have superior handling in the wet weather. However, despite Will’s best efforts to recover from lost time, the wet weather meant times were not going to improve. In the end, the StreetCar MINI missed out behind the Academy MINI by the slimmest of margins.

It’s clear that these two drivers gained a lot from this experience. In their pursuit of advancing their skills, an opportunity like this allowed the Motorsport UK Academy drivers to put their car control to the test, and have a lot of fun whilst doing it!
