Andy Laurence is a long-time Autotest competitor, having started out in 2001 and even taking part in the second-ever AutoSOLO. In recent years however, he has brought his whole family into the world of grassroots motorsport, turning them into fully fledged StreetCar competitors.
Like many, Andy’s love for motorsport began at the elite level. Watching F1 and BTCC on TV sparked his initial interest, however, Andy soon sought avenues into competing and realised that there were other opportunities outside of circuit racing and rallying. After trying his first Autotest, he was immediately hooked. Since then, he has competed in over 100 events, including Sprints, Hillclimbs, AutoSOLOs, Trials, and Scatters.
That passion has naturally passed on to his children. His son Archie competed in his first event in 2024, just two days after turning 14. Daughter Immy soon followed, becoming the youngest AutoSOLO competitor in the country at age 13 when the minimum age was lowered in summer 2025.
The family often triple drive their car at events, with Archie and Immy having around 24 runs each day between them, and Andy adding another 12. The family’s motorsport progression is fuelled by their enjoyment of the events, “I get huge enjoyment every time they cross the finish line and they’re so happy to be competing,” Andy says. “It’s a buzz that goes all day long.”
A perfect example of motorsport in your everyday road car, their competition car is the family’s 2008 Renault Clio, a daily driver full of sentimental value. “It was the first car Archie ever sat in on the way home from school. During the week, it’s used to visit new families as my wife supports new mums in her role as a midwife. It’s also the car I took my first class win in!”
The Laurence family continue to develop their skills and their shared love for the sport with every event.
