Sheffield & Hallamshire Motor Club, who celebrated their 120th anniversary in 2024, have built a strong reputation for organising Sprints and Single Venue Stage Rallies. It has been many years since they have organised a Production Car Trial, but through embracing the StreetCar initiative, this has now changed.

On 28 September, the Club ran the “Easy Peasy Just For Fun” Production Car Trial on the outskirts of Sheffield. The Club enlisted the services of Peter Banham, an experienced Clerk of the Course, who created four challenging, but importantly non damaging tests for the competitors to run several times.
A full entry of 22 cars was supported by marshals which enabled the day to flow freely and give the competitors more than the promised eight tests. Competitors joined the event from four surrounding clubs with a combination of new and old faces.
A car was made available by one of their members and it had 3 drivers, two of which were 15-year-old juniors. The juniors were provided with a one-hour training session the day before the event in exchange for helping to set out the course.
One of the junior’s parents commented;
“Sheffield & Hallamshire Motor Club have been so supportive of Matthew, he really enjoyed the event, and I am really impressed by how his driving skills improved throughout the day.”
Fifteen-year-old Matthew Belk had an impressive performance in the little Yaris loan car. He had never driven a road going car until the training session the day before but managed, in a class of 14 Front Wheel Drive cars, to finish an excellent 3rd.
Sheffield and Hallamshire are keen to run more StreetCar events, gaining several new members and opening up networking opportunities that have come from engaging with the next generation of competitors, marshals, organisers and landowners.
