Keeping it in the Family

If you’re looking for inspiration to get your family involved in motorsport, look no further. Si Kellow, along with wife Andrea and their three children; Niamh, Drew and Ryan, are all avid motorsport enthusiasts.

The family were not born into motorsport, it wasn’t until the summer of 2019 when Si and Drew took a chance at their first evening Autotest at Maidstone & Mid Kent Motor Club. Since then, motorsport has always been a conversation at the dinner table as they can’t get enough of competing.

2024 has been one of the most exciting years for competing as a family. After moving away for University, Drew didn’t expect to compete in many events last year, however the thought of motorsport could not keep him away. Drew came back, keen to enter an Autotest in the family Micra, just to find that it was already in use by Andrea and Niamh who were competing at the same event. This saw Drew forced to compete in the MG ZR.

Motorsport success runs in the family, with Niamh having had an eventful 2024 season. Niamh started 2024 with a navigational scatter, however she has since taken the Autotest discipline by storm, finishing the season by battling it out against her dad Si. After her first season, it’s clear that driving talent runs in their blood, as Niamh was awarded with both Best Novice and Best Under 25 at Brooklands for the Southern Autotest Championship.

The family have also been heavily involved with the rally discipline as Si and Andrea have consistently competed together in the Weald Motor Club 12 Car Championship until early in the year when Andrea couldn’t make a round due to an operation. Fortunately for Si, he was not short of competent drivers within the family as Niamh “leapt at the opportunity” to take Andrea’s place.

Motorsport is always bringing their family together, whether that be marshalling, working together on a navigational rally or battling it out at an Autotest.

Si commented, “That’s something we find easy – going from competing against each other, to competing with each other.”

This fantastic story shows how motorsport can bring a family together and the different avenues you can explore to get the whole family involved. Keen to get your family competing in 2025? Submit your ‘get started’ form here, to find your local StreetCar Club.
