A year on from being named Motorsport UK Sustainable Club of the Year, Knutsford & District Motor Club is continuing its commitment to reducing its environmental impact, with plans to put new ideas into practice at grassroots level.
Recognised last December for its efforts to promote more sustainable practices within motorsport, the club is now looking to build on its achievement and explore how small, practical changes can make a difference.
One of its next steps is to use its award grant to organise an eco 12-Car Rally, exploring how a traditional grassroots motorsport event can be delivered with sustainability in mind.
The planned event will provide an opportunity for the club to consider different approaches to reducing environmental impact, while encouraging members, competitors and volunteers to think about the role they can play in making motorsport more sustainable.
Alongside these plans, Knutsford & District Motor Club has been working to establish a baseline for the carbon emissions generated by its events.
By understanding where emissions come from, the club hopes to identify areas where improvements can be made and take a more informed approach to reducing its carbon footprint over time.
For grassroots motor clubs, balancing the enjoyment and accessibility of motorsport with environmental responsibility is an important part of the sport’s future. Knutsford & District Motor Club’s approach highlights how clubs can begin by understanding their impact, exploring new ideas and building sustainability into their activities.
