Touring into Motorsport

North Wales Car Club hosted the Touring Assembly at the StreetCar Festival Wales, which a fun and affordable way to get into motorsport in your everyday road car. L-time club member Dave V Thomas (DVT) used his experience of running various rallies and navigational runs to put together this tour suitable for newcomers.

The nine crews were given a road book, containing diagrams of the junctions along with other notes and some “fun facts”.  In glorious sunshine the first car left at 10 o’clock, followed by the others at one-minute intervals.

Touring assemblies are a great StreetCar discipline where you get to drive road, you might not normally see. En route various places of interests were passed, giving suggestions for future visits such as Anglesey Sea Zoo overlooking the Menai Straits to Caernarfon and Tacla Taid which houses a big collection of various transport machinery.

The competitors ranged in age from 12 to 84 and all managed to get round the route and make it to the festival. Experience of such events ranged from regular participants to complete novices, the “tulip” diagrams teaching many how to navigate on the big rallies where the system is widespread.

With many StreetCar Clubs across the UK organising events every week, there’s plenty of opportunities to get involved and start your own motorsport journey – all in your everyday road car!
