StreetCar British ecoRally winners head to Scotland…

Two of the winning teams from the UK-wide rounds of the StreetCar British ecoRally will be heading to Dundee to compete in ecoRally Scotland – truly progressing from StreetCar Club event to FIA World Championship driver in under six months.

On Saturday 26 April, the first StreetCar British ecoRally event set off from the Scottish Sporting Car Club, with four crews taking on Rallye-Donia. For most crews, this was their first experience of rallying, and the event provided them with a simple, yet exciting entrance into motorsport.

Sam Naylor and Iain Carr won the first round of the event. Winning driver Sam Naylor commented, “Iain and I both felt that it absolutely hit the mark for a friendly introduction to the sport, but by no means easy! We reached the end frazzled yet happy, which I think was about the intended outcome!”

James Hoyles and Iain Tullie from Ilkley and District Motor Club were the final winners, with each team winning a discounted entry to the Dundee-based event, round eight of the Bridgestone ecoRally Cup.

The team were also crowned the 2024 winners of ecoRally Scotland, with Iain commenting, “The event itself is very accessible to newcomers and novices, with the tulip road book being easy to follow. However, maintaining the prescribed average speeds through the secret timing points takes some skill and practice.”

“Regularity Rallies of this type in the UK have previously only been for historic vehicles, so it is great that it is being opened up to a new audience for electric, hybrid and some alternative-fuel cars.”

Motorsport UK’s StreetCar programme provides the perfect point of entry for EV and hybrid vehicle owners to experience motorsport in their everyday road car. Launched in 2022, StreetCar showcases the affordability and accessibility of motorsport around the UK, encouraging more people to get behind the wheel and enjoy the sport.
